..and some interesting local 'uns..
Hyde vs Bradford Park Avenue is tempting, but once again Lancaster City are in what to me looks like the game of the round - Lancaster City vs FC Halifax Town. In the 2009/10 season Lancaster City were top of the table nearly all season, with Halifax the only team close to them they opened up a big gap at the top - but with the title in their sights, Lancaster's form suddenly deserted them and their results became very inconsistent, meanwhile Halifax kept winning and the gap closed rapidly. Right near the end of the season Lancaster had an away match at Halifax that was all set to be a title decider... and on the day it all went wrong for Lancaster, who ended up losing 4-0.
Halifax went on to win the division, and, as they finished 2nd place, Lancaster went into the play offs despite being 25+ points above everyone else in the play offs. They got to the final and lost 1-0 to Colwyn Bay thanks to an 87th minute penalty. To kick them in the teeth further, Lancaster then had to sell some of their better players last season as their crowds weren't big enough to cover their wages (a problem they may well not have had if they'd had the extra visiting away fans of the division above) and as a result finished just outside the play offs, meanwhile Halifax and Colwyn Bay both got promoted again for the second season running.
And so a year and a half after being narrowly pipped to the title by Halifax, Lancaster have been drawn against them, now 2 divisions below them - and needless to say it's a big chance to get some revenge for the end to that 2009/10 season. And of course both teams know if they win this, they're then just 1 round away from the first round proper...
