So after several weeks away, I return to Seel Park tomorrow for Mossley vs Bamber Bridge.
Mossley drew 1-1 at home to Prescot Cables on Saturday, perhaps a little disappointing for Mossley especially as Prescot Cables were down to 10 men for the final 20 minutes after having a player sent off, and from what others have said it wasn't an attractive performance, with even Mossley's usually overly positive official website's match report admitting too many players had off days.
But it does mean that Mossley are now unbeaten in their last 5 league games, having won 3 in a row followed by 2 draws. And few would've expected that after they began with just 2 points in their opening 6 games!
Bamber Bridge's results suggest a team that are very inconsistent and unpredictable. They began with 2 wins, including a 6-0 mauling of nearby Clitheroe. But then they lost 3-0 at home to Salford City and lost again away to Witton Albion. Then two draws, then a win, then two losses. A random mix.
Even their FA Cup results were unpredictable, they drew at top of the table Curzon Ashton and then beat them 3-2 at home in the replay, a brilliant result for them... then the week after in the next round they lost 4-0 at home to struggling 18th placed Warrington Town, a dreadful result for them!
Bamber Bridge find themselves 16th placed of 22 teams with 11 points from 9 games, with Mossley currently 14th and 2 points ahead. But Mossley have played 2 extra games.
Last season Bamber Bridge won 1-0 at Mossley in the opening game of the season, with a 2-2 draw at Bamber Bridge. The season before Mossley won 1-0 at home and 2-1 away.
All these stats basically suggest this game is entirely unpredictable in every way, in terms of who will win and whether it will be very entertaining or very, very boring. This gives me deja vu from previewing Ashton United vs Buxton last midweek, and that ended a thrilling 4-2....
All I know from watching Mossley regularly is that you never have a clue what to expect!
